Thenali is a hilarious film to the core. Kamal Haasan plays Thenali who suffers from a chronic and acute fear psychosis. Thenali is sacred of everything and anything in the world and is almost incurable. Elsewhere Dr.Panchabhootham-psychiatrist is jealous and insecure about the success and fame that are easily being earned by his junior Dr. Kailash. As Dr. Panchabhootham finds how difficult and nightmarish Thenali is, as a patient, he sees in him the perfect nemesis for Dr. Kailash. So he sends Thenali to Dr. Kailash. The rest of the film is about how Thenali is cured even as Dr. Kailash's sister Jyothika develops a soft corner for him. And the doctor himself is suspecting Thenali of making passes at his wife Devyani. Meena plays a small cameo.
