Balakrishna hits the trumpet of the mythological films with his Pandurangadu. After Annamayya and Sri Ramadasu, "Darshakendrudu" Raghavendra Rao has once again, proved that he is a man of mythological era and continues the magic of mythology with his Pandurangadu. He has proved that he the best director in filming the films, which have the divine element in them. His midas touch is clearly visible in the last 60 minutes of the film.
The story of Lord Panduranga is a part of 'Skanda Purana', one of 18 puranas, the treasure house for divine stories. Tenali Rama Krishna, one of the Astadiggajas of Sri Krishna Deva Raya wrote 'Panduranga Mahatyam' taking the gist from Skanda Purana.This film is based on NTR's classic "Panduranga Mahatyam"(1957) which was based on Skanda Purana. The story is about the redemption of a flirt and of an irresponsible son.
Technically, there is only one person’s work that dominates throughout the movie - Keeravani's. Simply, he is marvelous. Added to his great swaras, lyrics compliment them perfectly. Suddala Ashok Teja's touching lyrics in Matrodevobhava and Chandrabose's romantic numbers deserve special praise. Malayalam singer Madhu Gopala Krishna’s rendition has brought freshness. Music is backbone to the movie.
The magical combination of MM Keeravani and Raghavendra Rao works again. Indeed, Keeravani steals the show once again with extremely soulful devotional numbers and extraordinary re-recording.
Balakrishna gives his 100% to this movie. His dual role as lord Krishna and as a devotee is applauding and appraisable. His dialogue delivery and acting expressions make us remember his father late NTR. Sneha plays a role of a homely girl. Tabu once again proves her mettle and plays the role of a Prostitute with ease, Her costumes are also designed apt to her character. Mohan Babu impresses everybody with his modulated diction as the one who preaches the greatness of the parents, his role brief, but a vital part in twisting the film story line.
